About

Backup Awareness Day takes place on the 24th of each month. It is a day to

  • blog about the importance of backups
  • give practical tips to actually do them
  • help people around you do backups
  • tell horror stories of lost data
  • do your own backups!
  • put in place automated systems.

Stephanie Booth started Backup Awareness Day after she accidentally deleted her whole blog, and realised she didn’t know when she had last made a backup. That happened on February 24th, 2009 (hence the “24th of each month”). The story ended well, thankfully, as she managed to salvage her data, but it took nearly two months and a lot of work.

Backup Awareness Day is not just about backing up your blog — it’s about backing up your data in general. Get involved!
